About varicose veins

Varicose veins affect about 60% of Americans. They develop when vein valves begin to fail, which allows blood to flow backwards and put pressure on the wall of the vein. Varicose veins, which may appear to be bulging, twisted, or ropy, often result in pain, swelling, and inflammation. They can be a progressive, chronic problem, and without medical care can worsen, eventually causing skin ulcers or blood clots. Women are more likely to develop this type of vein disease, although men are affected as well. Risk factors also include heredity, pregnancy, and long periods of sitting or standing.

About spider veins

Spider veins, so called because of their web-like appearance, are most often found on the legs and face. They form when a small group of blood vessels located just below the surface of the skin become dilated. Spider veins may signal the type of underlying vein disease that causes varicose veins, or they may be only a cosmetic concern. At our Orlando vein clinic, we'll assess the cause of your spider veins and discuss your treatment options with you.
