ANDREW KWAK, MD
As director and founder of the LUMEN Laser Center, Dr. Andrew Kwak (kwäk) is a leading vein specialist in the Main Line area of greater Philadelphia. He is a proud Philadelphia native of more than 30 years, spending the majority of his educational and professional career in the local area, with faculty and administrative appointments at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Kwak is a nationally recognized physician and lecturer, both for his work as a vein doctor and as an expert in the use of lasers for medical and cosmetic applications. Dr. Kwak serves as a Physician Instructor for several major laser companies and established Penn's first laser vein treatment program in 2003.
Dr. Kwak was a leading graduate of the Episcopal Academy and of Duke University. He received his medical training entirely in the Philadelphia area, performing an internship at Albert Einstein Medical Center, his residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and a fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he remained on staff. Dr. Kwak went on to not only perform thousands of procedures at Penn, but helped develop new techniques that to this day, are only performed by a handful of people in the world. With an interest in medical laser applications, he pioneered the use of laser surgery for varicose veins at Penn. Dr. Kwak was a Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of both the Vein Program and Division of Interventional Radiology at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, also performing procedures at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. As a vein and laser specialist, he travels for visiting lectures and publishes extensively.
In 2006, Dr. Kwak continued his role as a leading Philadelphia vein doctor by establishing the independent LUMEN Laser Center in the popular Main Line region. He continued his work at the University of Pennsylvania, but now is able to bring his expertise in laser and vein treatment technologies to the broader Philadelphia community.
