Portland Vein Treatment Services

Getting rid of varicose veins has never been safer, easier or more comfortable than it is now. In the past, vein surgery (ligation & stripping) was the recommended (and almost only) procedure for Oregon vein treatment. Now, you can benefit from new treatments that are minimally invasive and feature very little if any discomfort along with fast recovery times. VNUS ClosureFAST, sclerotherapy, thermocoagulation and ambulatory phlebectomy are all forms of treatment that alleviate vein problems without vein surgery. Get back to your usual activities – minus the discomfort of varicose veins!

What are my treatment options?

With over 25 years in Portland vein treatment, Dr. Kenneth Janoff and Dr. Patrick Lehti can assess your particular vein problems and make the best recommendation possible for treatment. Services typically performed at the Bridgeport Vein Center include VNUS ClosureFAST™, sclerotherapy, VeinGogh- thermocoagulation and ambulatory phlebectomy.

Duplex Ultrasound

Duplex ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure that uses ultrasound imaging to take a picture of the veins under the skin. If the source of the pooling or blockage is not immediately apparent through a visual examination, your surgeon will use duplex ultrasound to identify the exact problem areas before proceeding with a treatment plan.

VNUS ClosureFAST™

Also called RF ablation, in a VNUS Closure procedure, the physician directs radiofrequency (RF) energy into the vein walls through a catheter inserted into the vein. Responding to the RF energy, the vein closes itself off by sealing shut and the body automatically redirects blood flow to healthier veins. Since the catheter is inserted through a very small nick in the skin, healing is swift. Patients experience little if any discomfort and enjoy a quick recovery.

VeinGogh - Ohmic Thermolysis System

The VeinGogh Ohmic Thermolysis System provides a superior solution for the treatment of fine telangiectasia, spider veins and small angiomas and, if appropriate, can be used in conjunction with sclerotherapy to deliver the best results possible. While lasers and other light-based solutions are expensive, skin-type dependent and have an inherent risk of injury, VeinGogh uses a hair-thin, insulated probe to thermocoagulate and instantly eliminate vessels dependably, repeatably and on any skin-type. Microbursts of electrical energy are converted to heat to instantly coagulate the blood and collapse the vessel wall, which later will be absorbed by the body. Because the probe directs the heat downward toward the vessel, through a tiny needle, the outer layers of the skin are unaffected. The treated areas will develop a very fine "cat scratch" appearance and redness that will fade and heal over a period of 3-6 weeks revealing the absence of these troublesome veins. VeinGogh works best on those fine spider veins (smaller then 1 mm) that are sometimes just too tiny to treat with sclerotherapy. Your doctor can help you decide which treatment, or a combination of both, is best suited for your needs.

Sclerotherapy

Portland patients suffering from spider veins are likely to be treated with sclerotherapy, a procedure by which a chemical (or "sclerosing") agent is injected into a vein through a tiny needle. The vein then seals itself shut and is eventually absorbed by the body, while blood flow is redirected to healthy veins. Sclerotherapy is considered the gold standard treatment for smaller red or blue spider veins. Sclerotherapy only minimal local anesthetic and recovery is quite rapid. It is possible that multiple sclerotherapy sessions may be required to achieve complete clearance of the veins and an ideal cosmetic outcome.

*Please note, there will be a $50 charge at the time of scheduling that will be applied to the cost of your sclerotherapy session. If you do not show up for your appointment, or fail to cancel within 48 hours of your appointment time, the $50 deposit will be forfeited.*

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Varicose veins close to the surface of the skin are often treated with ambulatory phlebectomy. The surgeon uses a local anesthetic to numb a small area of skin and then uses a small hook to draw veins out through a tiny incision.

If you are a patient with chronic vein disease in Portland, Lake Oswego, West Linn, Tualatin, Sherwood, Wilsonville, Tigard, or Beaverton, one (or more) of the above vein treatments is probably right for you.
