The supportive staff at Virginia Vein Care understands the impact painful, unsightly varicose veins and spider veins can have on your life. If you are suffering from painful veins, or are embarrassed by spider veins or varicose veins, we have good news: there has never been a better time to get rid of your veins.
For years, the only available treatment for spider veins or varicose veins was invasive vein surgery ('stripping'), which can have significant side effects and requires a long recovery. There are now many newer vein treatments available that can get rid of veins effectively. Many of these treatments take only one visit, can be performed in our conveniently located Washington DC area vein clinic, and will have you back to your normal routine the very next day.
Virginia Vein Care, a Washington DC area vein center, is conveniently located in the medical building of McLean, VA, just minutes from Tyson’s Corner, VA. What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins, enlarged, twisted, ropy or bulging veins, generally affect the legs. They develop when valves in the leg veins begin to fail, allowing blood to flow backwards and build pressure on the vein wall. Varicose veins are not simply a cosmetic problem. They often signify a progressive, chronic disease, and may cause pain, discomfort, swelling, and inflammation. Without treatment, varicose veins usually get worse and can develop into skin ulcers or blood clots. Risk factors for varicose veins include heredity, pregnancy, gender (hormones) and prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
What are spider veins?
Spider veins (or telangiectasia) are caused by the dilation of a small group of blood vessels located just below the surface of the skin, and usually appear on the legs and face as blue or red web-like veins. Spider veins alone are not a medical issue like varicose veins, but they may be a sign of vein disease and should be examined by a doctor. Although spider veins are not painful like varicose veins, they can cause embarrassment and often keep patients from participating in activities they enjoy.
