Dr. Lawrence Markovitz is a highly regarded Board Certified Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon with over 18 years of clinical experience. Unlike other Washington, DC area vein doctors, Dr. Markovitz has extensive experience with surgery of the heart, blood vessels and saphenous veins. He has performed over five thousand such procedures and has found the new VNUS Closure® procedure to be a highly effective vein treatment for those patients suffering from venous insufficiency.
Dr. Markovitz trained at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and subsequently served as chief of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Midelford Clinic, a Mayo Clinic subsidiary. Dr. Markovitz relocated to the North Virginia area in 2003. Shirley Wilson, B.S., R.D.M.S., R.V.T.
Ultrasound technician Shirley Wilson, B.S., R.D.M.S., R.V.T. received her baccalaureate degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from The George Washington University and has been working as a registered ultrasound technologist for over ten years. A vascular expert, Ms. Wilson has worked at many of the most highly regarded treatment facilities in the area, including The Washington Hospital Center and Georgetown Hospital. She frequently is called upon to train future sonographers and vascular technologists at area universities and medical centers.
Renee Lukashefski
Ms. Lukashefski, Virginia Vein Center's sclerotherapist, is originally from the Northeast Pennsylvania area. She received her baccalaureate degree in Nursing from the University of Rhode Island. Renee has been a clinical nurse for over 10 years, practicing in the fields of surgical oncology, chemotherapy/radiation oncology, and currently works as an operating room nurse as well as sclerotherapist. She has served various clinical management roles as a nursing educator/instructor and clinical mentor within the Inova Health System. Renee has been a sclerotherapist in the Northern Virginia area for 2 years.
