Kansas Surgical Arts – A leading Wichita vein center

Dr. Oberhelman

Kansas Surgical Arts, a leading Wichita vein clinic, provides a wide range of advanced treatments for varicose veins, spider veins, and other forms of vein disease. As a patient of our Kansas vein center, your care will be personally directed by Dr. Stephanie Oberhelman, a board-certified general surgeon and expert in vein treatment. At your initial consultation, Dr. Oberhelman will take the time to evaluate your condition and discuss treatment options that can help you get rid of problematic symptoms and unsightly veins.

At our Wichita vein center, we know that painful, unsightly varicose veins and spider veins are more than just a cosmetic concern; they can be a significant medical problem. Left untreated, vein disease can progress to venous ulcers, a potentially serious and chronic condition. For years, invasive vein surgery (also known as "vein stripping") was the only way to get rid of veins.

Now, a number of newer vein treatment therapies offered at our Kansas vein center can get rid of veins without the long recovery period and risk of scarring associated with vein surgery. Many of the treatments we offer for spider veins and varicose veins, including VNUS Closure® and endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) require minimal downtime and will have you back to your normal routine the following day.

About varicose veins

Varicose veins are usually found in the legs and appear as enlarged, twisted, ropy or bulging veins. They develop as a result of a chronic, progressive condition, when valves in the leg veins allow blood to flow backwards and put pressure on the vein wall. Because they can be unsightly, varicose veins often cause people to avoid activities such as swimming, which would require them to reveal their legs. However, varicose veins are more than simply a cosmetic problem. They may cause pain, discomfort, swelling, and inflammation. Without treatment, varicose veins usually get worse and can develop into skin ulcers or blood clots.

About spider veins

Spider veins, also known as telangiectasia, are caused by the dilation of a small group of blood vessels located just beneath the skin’s surface. They are red or blue and web-like in appearance, and usually appear on the legs and face. By themselves, spider veins are not a medical issue like varicose veins, but they may be a symptom of further vein disease and should be examined by a doctor. Spider veins are not painful like varicose veins, but as a cosmetic problem they may keep patients from participating in activities they enjoy. Spider veins can become a medical issue if they break open and bleed spontaneously.
