Kansas Surgical Arts

Wichita, Kansas Vein Treatment Services

Dr. Oberhelman

If you live in the greater Wichita, KS area and want to get rid of varicose veins or spider veins, Kansas Surgical Arts offers a wide range of vein treatment options. Not long ago, if you wanted to get rid of varicose veins your only treatment option was invasive vein surgery (also known as vein ‘stripping'). Vein surgery usually required treatment in a hospital, a recovery period of several weeks, and often had significant side effects, including scarring.

Now our Wichita vein treatment clinic offers a wide range of safe and effective minimally invasive vein treatments like VNUS Closure® (RF closure), EVLT, ambulatory phlebectomy, and sclerotherapy. These vein treatment procedures can be performed in the comfort, convenience, and privacy of our Kansas vein treatment clinic under local (or no) anesthesia, with superior results. At our Wichita vein treatment center, board-certified general surgeon Dr. Stephanie Oberhelman will personally assess your condition and recommend an appropriate vein treatment plan.

Spider Vein Treatment & Varicose Vein Treatment at our Wichita Vein Treatment Center

Kansas Surgical Arts provides advanced therapies for the treatment of vein disease, including:

Duplex ultrasound

Ultrasound is a non-invasive and painless diagnostic tool to examine the blood flow in your veins and evaluate the extent of any vein disease. With the information from your ultrasound, Dr. Oberhelman will recommend the best vein treatment options for you.

VNUS ClosureFAST (RF Closure)

VNUS Closure® (also known as RF closure or radiofrequency closure) is quickly becoming the gold of standard treatment to get rid of varicose veins, avoiding the need for invasive vein surgery. In VNUS Closure® a tiny catheter is inserted into the affected vein and delivers gentle radiofrequency energy as it is withdrawn. The vein seals shut, and blood is re-routed to healthy veins. In most cases, VNUS Closure® is not only more effective than traditional vein surgery, it also offers the benefit of a significantly faster recovery and reduces the chances of scarring and other possible complications.

VNUS Closure® is performed using local anesthesia in the privacy and convenience of our Kansas vein treatment center. Most RF closure procedures can be completed in about an hour, and patients are usually able to return to their daily routine the next day. To speed your recovery, you may be encouraged to avoid strenuous activities, to walk, and to avoid standing for long periods as you heal.

Endovenous Laser Treatment

EVLT is a minimally invasive treatment to get rid of varicose veins that previously could only be treated with invasive vein surgery. EVLT is performed under local anesthesia in our Wichita vein treatment center and can usually be completed in less than 45 minutes. With EVLT, a laser fiber delivers laser energy to the vein, sealing it closed. EVLT involves little pain and no scarring, and allows patients to return to work the very next day.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

With ambulatory phlebectomy (also known as microphlebectomy), short varicose vein segments are removed through tiny incisions. As with the other vein treatments offered by Kansas Surgical Arts, we offer ambulatory phlebectomy treatments in our own Kansas vein treatment center, usually under local anesthesia, allowing you to avoid the inconvenience of a hospital visit. Following ambulatory phlebectomy, a bandage and/or compression stocking is worn for a brief period. Ambulatory phlebectomy procedures generally do not require stitches, and scars are virtually unnoticeable.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy, the "gold standard" treatment for spider veins is widely-used and accepted. Sclerotherapy involves injecting the veins with a chemical solution ("sclerosing agent") that causes the vein to seal shut. Eventually, the vein is reabsorbed by the body. There is no downtime with sclerotherapy treatments and patients can immediately go back to work.

Ultrasound-Guided Sclerotherapy (UGS)

Ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy is used to treat veins below the skin surface that are not visible externally. In ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, duplex ultrasound is used together with sclerotherapy to verify the location of the vein and help guide the needle. UGS is often used with 'foam' sclerosing agents, where air bubbles help increase effectiveness and visibility under ultrasound.

Transdermal Laser

Our Wichita vein treatment clinic offers transdermal laser therapy to treat smaller spider veins using the Alma 1064 laser. Transdermal laser therapy requires no injection or incision and leaves no mark on the skin. Transdermal laser is frequently used after sclerotherapy to clean up any veins too small to inject.
