Do vein specialists treat spider veins?

Spider-veins-pre-injection_vein-treatmentVein specialists treat a number of vein problems, and spider veins are among them.  Vein specialists will tell you it’s a common condition.  According to the US government’s women’s health site (and of course men get them too), you might be more likely to develop spider veins and/or varicose veins if any of the following factors are influencing your body:

  • Growing older is a common cause.
  • Being born with weak valves in your veins is a good indicator.
  • Having family members who develop vein problems may be a sign that you will, too.
  • Changes in hormone levels can affect valves.  For a woman, vein problems can begin when you reach puberty, during pregnancy, and/or at menopause.  Some medicines containing hormones, such as birth control pills, can raise the risk of developing spider veins or other vein problems.
  • Pregnancy can cause veins to grow larger for two reasons.   The massive increase in blood circulating through your body can stress the veins.  Also, as the uterus grows, it puts pressure on the veins.
  • Being overweight, injuring your leg, standing for long periods of time, and certain other factors can weaken vein valves.
  • Even too much sun may cause some fair-skinned persons to develop spider veins on the face.

If you’ve got enough factors working against you, there may be no way to totally prevent spider veins.  But don’t worry.  Vein specialists today have extremely effective procedures for reducing the number and improving the appearance of spider veins for most people.  New, minimally-invasive procedures like foam sclerotherapy are generally pain-free, simple, and require only short visits to the clinic.  Read more about ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy, and find a qualified vein specialist in your area today.
